For decades the women and children of our country have been subject to horrendous crimes in the name of honour, religion and social respect. Deprived of education in many cases, their future seems to be bleak from the very moment of their birth. The destiny of most women, especially those born in an economically backward family, seems to be in the hands of the men who rule her at different stages of her life. From her father who controls every aspect of her early life, she is given in marriage to a man (in most cases without her consent) who would rule over her through her youth and what should be the most promising period of her life, the reigns of her life are passed on to her son. Economic and social dependence on male members of the family is the biggest challenge among other potential challenges for most women in Afghanistan. – Education Program – Health Program – Livelihoods & Food Security Program – Civil Society Working Group – Development Program – Gender Equality, Empowerment and Mainstreaming Program – Disaster Risk Reduction & Climate Change Program – Capacity Building Program Focus Groups HHWO’s focus is on the socio-economically disadvantaged groups of women, youth and children. Keeping in view the overall socio-cultural fabric of the society and the overall power imbalances and discriminations that exist at all levels; the focus, amongst these groups, is again on most vulnerable and the marginalized ones. HHWO’s also focuses on the inclusion of minorities and special groups such as widows, pregnant and lactating women and physically impaired persons and elderly people.
