About Us

About Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan:

Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan (CW4WAfghan.ca) is a not-for-profit organization and a non-religious, non-political, federally registered charity in Canada (Canada Revenue Agency #887718203RR0001) and is registered with the Ministry of Economy of the Government of Afghanistan. CW4WAfghan’s goals are to advance education and educational opportunities for Afghan women and their families and to educate Canadians about human rights in Afghanistan. The organization’s mission is: Canadians taking action, in partnership with Afghan women, towards improving conditions of human rights, ending women’s oppression, and providing opportunities for Afghan women to live their lives with dignity, certainty and purpose. Our work falls within four main field program areas: (1) Investments in Basic Education; (2) Community Libraries, Literacy and Books Program; (3) Technology for Education and (4) Public Engagement. About the GETT Project

The GETT Project: Gender Equity in Teacher Training to Improve Girls’ Education in Afghanistan is an innovative project to promote gender responsive teacher training colleges (TTCs) at the subnational level in Afghanistan. Through our work with TTC directors, managers and instructors to improve gender-responsiveness in TTCs, the goal of this project is to ultimately alleviate the chronic shortage of qualified female teachers. Our approach includes improving the capacity of TTCs to increase the capability and enthusiasm of female students to become effective teachers, and to encourage and support both male and female teachers in their practice to promote the participation of Afghan girls in formal education. Funded through a multi-year grant from Global Affairs Canada (GAC), this project is a direct legacy of earlier support from GAC to our in-service teacher training work in Afghanistan, beginning in 2008. Funding for GETT is a continuation of Canada’s investments in teacher education in Afghanistan, now with an emphasis on sustainability, working in partnership with the Teacher Education Directorate of Afghanistan and four public TTCs.J
