Job Description:


The Senior Health Officer is responsible to provide support on technical and management issues, including supervision, monitoring, processing of PRs, FSRFs and participation in different forms of meetings.


The Senior Health Officer will be responsible for carrying out the following health related activities but not limited to:

  • Support all health facility staff for improvement of skills and work progress.
  • Provide expert opinion on technical and management issues as the need arises.
  • Carry out those tasks, which are necessary for operational and skilful interventions.
  • Supervise and provide on the job training on technical issues to all health facilities staff.
  • Develop or update guidelines, norms, standards and curricula.
  • Review HFs report before submitting to Kabul or regional office.
  • Perform HFs and project managed staff appraisal as per IMC HR rules and regulations.
  • Develop job descriptions and checklists and other technical documents based on the program need.
  • Provide support and participate in health surveys, rapid assessment subject to instructions.
  • Plan seminars on various health topics e.g. HIS, TOT, management, supervision and monitoring etc.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to SHCs, Kabul Office and other provinces based on project need.
  • Participate in task force working group meetings and workshops at regional and provincial levels.
  • Follow established departmental policies, procedures and objectives; continuous quality improvement initiative; safety, environmental, and infection prevention standards.
  • Identify and report immediately any problems which interfere in the delivery of services or in achieving the program objectives to Project Manager.
  • Ensure planning, implementation, supervision/monitoring and coordination of health activities granted by donor.
  • Monitor and supervise the progress of training, EPI, IEC, community health development and pharmacy.
  • Follow IMC standard security and staff safety policies and procedures strictly.
  • Update Kabul and regional security department immediately after incident and before any anticipated incident.
  • Work closely with field office security department for staff travel to field and coming to office.
  • Oversee pharmaceutical supplies consumption, report, stock cards and request.
  • Participate in PHCC, PMDC and other ad hoc meetings in the province and regional health cluster meeting and share the meeting main points with Kabul Office.
  • Present IMC project progress in each community level, provincial level and regional level meetings in appropriate manner.

As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards.  Conducts work with the highest level of integrity

Job Requirements:

  • The candidate must be graduated from recognized medical faculty.
  • The candidate must have 2 years’ working experience in BPHS/EHPS project or similar health projects. Preference will be given to the locals of the duty station.
  • The candidate must be able to travel hard to reach districts of the province.
  • The candidate must have good human and communication skills.
  • The candidate must be able to speak fluently in Dari, Pashto and English will be a plus point.
