The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) has been working in Afghanistan since 1982, presently managing development Programs concerning Health, Education, Rural Livelihoods and Community Governance, with a total annual budget of roughly USD 40 million. The total number of staff is over 6,000. During the last 10 years SCA has undertaken a change process moving from a primarily humanitarian service delivery approach towards more of a developmental role, putting increasing emphasis on capacity development, rights-based programming, and outcome orientation. Job Description:

  • Supporting staff in conducting group sessions with persons need psychosocial services.
  • Performing individual assessments, drawing up treatments, plans and providing counselling and psychological support to needy people.
  • Supporting SCA in conducting need assessment or context analysis on mental health related issues.
  • Build capacity of staff on assessing and diagnosing clients experiencing symptoms of psychological distress.
  • Supporting team in examining social issues that may influence a client’s mental well-being, including peer pressure, bullying, substance use, prejudice, disabilities, and health issues.
  • Support team in developing referral mechanism to other health professionals as well as to other resources available in community or nearby place.
  • Planning, executing, and follow up capacity building trainings to the social trainers, CBRWs and other disability projects staff.
  • Developing SOPs (Standard Operation Procedures) for the psychosocial support component of DP with support of senior disability programme specialist.
  • Conducting field visits from disability projects in RMOs.
  • Assess the capacity of Disability projects field staff in the regions specifically social trainers and CBRWs and develop the training and individual staff capacity development plan
  • To ensure confidentiality including all client’s records are safe and secure in all RMOs.
  • Train social trainers and CBRWs on case identification, counselling, and follow up.
  • Develop psychosocial counselling tools and templates.
  • Support social integration team in conducting awareness sessions.
  • Report on monthly, and quarterly basis and ad hoc to immediate supervisor.
  • Keep record of psychosocial counselling component.
  • Promote an attitude of team spirit and a strong focus on quality
  • Develop and maintain professional working relations with CBR team
  • Attend all relevant meetings request by line manager and staff.
  • At least 30% of time should be in the field
  • Any other related duties as assigned from time to time.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and relevant field (University degree in Psychology or Social Work and a Valid certificate from Ministry of Health certifying as Professional Counsellor)​​​​​​​
  • Experience:
  • A minimum of 3- 4 years of work experience in Psychological/ Psychosocial counselling.

Others:

  • Psychosocial Counsellor must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to the field where the disability programme of SCA operates.
  • Ability of conducting trainings
  • Ability to clearly express one’s thoughts to analyse and present information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to set priorities and show initiative to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of clients’ files.
  • Knowledge of case management and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility and ability to manage change.
