Mahboba’s Promise is an Australian non-profit organisation dedicated to helping disadvantaged women and children in Afghanistan.

Mahboba’s Promise was founded by Mahboba Rawi in 2001, an Afghanistan refugee and now an Australian citizen, who has experienced first-hand the effects of a country torn apart by years of war and civil unrest. Since then, Mahboba’s Promise has established schools, shelters and health clinics across Afghanistan and provided numerous sponsorships to widows and orphans in need. Mahboba’s Promise’s ongoing projects have provided education and homes for children, vocational skills and training for women, support and health care access for the wider community; and over 20 years later, still stands as a respected and effective organisation bringing valuable, sustainable change to the people of war-torn Afghanistan.

Job Summary:

We are looking for M&E officers to monitor the overall project delivery of Mahboba’s Promise Afghanistan’s food distribution and education program. M&E officers will use in-house reporting mechanisms and the Monitoring Evaluation Learning (MEL) tools. M&E officers will carry additional duties to support the implementation of the project outside of their M&E duties. M&E officers will either be based in Kabul or their individually assigned provinces. Managed by the Program Manager, the M&E officers will be working collaboratively with their Provincial Coordinators and Teachers to achieve project outcomes.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct key assessments to identify areas of need.
  • Undertake regular visits to field locations to support monitoring, evaluation, impact assessment processes and accountability processes.
  • Establish and implement systems to inform the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the program.
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify baseline situation of the learning and capacity building needs of response staff.
  • Develop a performance monitoring framework to measure progress, effectiveness and achievement of expected results, specifying qualitative and quantitative indicators, data sources, and collection methods
  •  Establish and support the implementation of a data management system to inform planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  •  Work with project staff to ensure accountability systems are in place that engage beneficiaries and stakeholders in evaluations, impact assessments and research
  • Undertake regular visits to field locations to support monitoring, evaluation, impact assessment processes and accountability processes.
  • Monitor and document the progress of programme activities against agreed indicators and the impact of programmes to inform overall programme strategy
  • Collect accurate and timely data of programme activities and utilize project management cycle to reflect and analyze results and feedback, develop best practices, and implement lessons learned back into the project
  • Prepare reports as required for internal, donor and beneficiary community reporting.
  • Responsible for the creation of timely reports for the Program Manager.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of the class schedules for EAA trainings for students participated in all levels in close coordination with Trainers/Teachers.
  • Maintain up to date and accurate records of all Program activities and provide regular reports to Program Manager as needed.
  • Assist the Program Officer in drafting and finalizing the bi-weekly, monthly and project completion reports.
  • Perform other tasks based on organizational needs

Job Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in education, Economics, Management or related discipline.
  • 3-5 years of experience in M& E and managing projects and similar operations.
  • Ability to travel to conduct assessments on the ground.
  • Strong data analysis skills.
  • Solid experience working collaboratively with staff and key stakeholders to achieve project outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and flexibly to achieve project outcomes.
  • Strong communication and people skills.
  • Fluency in Farsi-Dari, Pashto and English language skills.
  • Technically proficient with software programs.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently.
  • Knowledge and experience in Monitoring and Evaluation.
  • Good inter-personal skills and ability to lead and work in a team.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and under pressure to meet deadlines.
