The International Assistance Mission is a non-profit charitable organization through which staff from the Islamic Nation of Afghanistan and International christian volunteers serve in partnership to build capacity in the sectors of health and development working together for the welfare of the people of Afghanistan.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
IAM staff responsibilities:
Follow all IAM policies and procedures
Practice IAM values and approaches while you are IAM employee.
Work in the outpatient departments, inpatient wards and operating theater as per IAM work schedule.
Examine and treat patients in the outpatient department.
Make complete inpatient rounds each normal workday with ward nurses, other ophthalmologists, and trainees.
Perform surgeries (Extra and Intra) in the operating theater based on the list approved by medical coordinator on team based.
Help the other surgery team as necessary.
Perform emergency surgery, or other special long cases, on non-surgery workdays.
Educate patients carefully about their conditions and treatment and refer patients when necessary to an equipped center. The referral paper should be approved by the senior ophthalmologist and project manager
Record all relevant history, findings, and orders on patient outpatient and inpatient forms in a legible and detailed manner.
Keep statistics on patient diagnoses, and for other special investigations as determined necessary by the senior ophthalmologists.
Participate in all aspects of the ophthalmology resident training program, by providing formal instruction as well as close supervision of resident practice in the outpatient department, wards, and operating theater.
Participate in the training of ophthalmic technicians and others referred to IAM NOOR for training.
Participate in the development and administration of assessment tools for the evaluation of trainees.
Participate in training conducted by IAM.
At all times when on duty, wear the hospital uniform provided. Staff are responsible to keep their uniforms clean and repaired.
Qualifications and personal profile
Proof of graduation from medical school and a suitable ophthalmology training program, as well as an IAM-NOOR or equivalent diploma.
Excellent clinical judgement, diagnostic and surgical skills, as well as thoroughness in all work.
Commitment to one’s own continuing medical education and improvement of skills.
Commitment and ability to teach ophthalmology resident trainees, medical students, and patients.
Respect for all people, and ability to work well in a team.
Punctuality and reliability.
Confidence in dealing with large numbers of patients.
Reasonable fluency in spoken Dari and Pashto, as well as a working knowledge of written and spoken English.
Commitment to IAM and hospital policies and medical records documentation.
