Job Description:

Under the general guidance of the PM Ghor and in-line with the Afghanaid Strategy, the Hygiene promoter is responsible to carry out community awareness raising sessions. They will involve working with communities’ members in the villages and schools, and discussing health related issues including raising awareness on hygiene and basic health. The Hygiene Promoters will be based in the district office Dawlatyar with an average radian distance of 75 KM from the target villages each. and He/she will get support from the Social Organisers as well. Afghanaid should encourage community workers or community volunteers and facilitators who can be supported through some kind of incentives in the field too. The Hygiene Promoters will gather participant feedback as well as update participants on how their input has been handled

Job Requirements:


  • Support and train the parents and CDC members on passing massages to women, men and children at the villages and on the use of participatory hygiene behaviour, hand washing with soap and keeping drinking water safe at point.
  • Train the CHWs, CHSs and increase their knowledge and skills on personal and household hygiene and sanitation especially on benefit of hand washing practices.
  • Conduct survey and assessment on knowledge of family members on household hygiene and sanitation and latrine use at the target villages.
  • Regular field visits and have discussion with male and family members on hygiene practices and motivate the families to support construction and use of toilets.
  • Follow up on implementation of hygiene and sanitation activates and its regular monitoring and assessment and reporting on need bases or on pre scheduled timing to the line manager.
  • Documentation of specific success stories, invocations for donor reporting and advocacy purposes.
  • Conduct the hygiene promotion campaigns at community level
  • Follow up on sensitizing the community on the importance of good hygiene, the dangers of poor hygiene, and the best methods of preventing these dangers.
  • Monitor community participation in solid waste management at the local level.
  • Establish community based water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) committee at community level.
  • Any other duties as and when assigned by the line manager, MD and/or Directorate.


Education & Professional Qualification

  • Graduate from medical institutes, 14 grade or High school graduate

Work Experience

  • At least two years of work experience with National/International NGOs on hygiene and sanitation programmes
