About MEDAIR:
Medair is an international humanitarian organization established in 1988. An Integrated Emergency Response: Medair aims to respond to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition, and morbidity in Tirinkot district. The project intends to improve and extend WASH services including water supply infrastructure and hygiene practices to improve outcomes for vulnerable families.
An Integrated Emergency Response: Medair aims to respond to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition, and morbidity in Uruzgan, which has been significantly affected by drought and conflict conditions. Building upon Medair’s decades of experience in the Central Highlands and Kandahar, the project intends to improve and extend utilisation of lifesaving preventive and curative nutrition and health services by mothers, PLWs and children U5; to increase access to clean water, to reduce vulnerability to water-related and other preventable diseases, and to improve and increase food security for the most vulnerable families through food voucher distributions.
Job Description:
Overall Purpose
To be a member of the health promotion team to implementing cascade groups, to increase household level awareness and practice of Health, Nutrition, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).
Health promotion trainer will address topics including Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), nutrition for Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLWs), food preparation, health seeking behaviour for common causes of under-five morbidity and mortality, and hygiene and sanitation practices on household level. The topics are provided by the Health Promotion Trainer on facility and household level in the community.
Project Overview
Medair is implementing a health and nutrition project in Uruzgan Province to provide lifesaving integrated humanitarian emergency response to conflict, drought and COVID 19 affected populations, through integrated Mobile Health and Nutrition Teams (MHNT). The project focuses on an Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM), including Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), RH services (ANC, PNC & FP), Integrated Management of Newborn and Childhood Illnesses (MNCI), Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS). The programme addresses some key determinants of health and malnutrition through promotion of improved Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) practices and linked health and hygiene practices. The project aims to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 and to reduce the impact of COVID-19 on health and nutrition outcomes of women and children.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical
- Giving qualitative and participatory training on promoter level.
- Being a good example in the community.
- Building up the capacity of promoters and providing constructive feedback
- Making sure that supporting Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) material is prepared and distributed on time and processed correctly.
- Preparing tally Sheets and Training sheets for promoters training.
- Coordinate and liaise with local communities to find promoters as well as accurate training places for promoter trainings and cascade groups if required.
- Coordinate and liaise with local communities when there are challenging circumstances or problems, and know when to ask for help from officer, managers or other relevant parties.
Quality Management
- Responsible for adequate data collection through promoters.
- Train promoters on data collection.
- Responsible for printing and preparing tally sheets on time.
- Making sure that tally sheets are accurate.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
- Giving high quality and participatory trainings on community and facility level.
- Capacity builds promoters and volunteers on training skills and topics according to curriculum.
- Preparing trainings, making sure IEC materials are ready on time and processed correctly.
- Providing constructive feedback towards promoters.
- Participating in household counts, surveys and other monitoring and evaluation activities.
- Provide accurate records, documents and reports as required.

PERSON REQUIREMENTS
Educational Background
- High-school graduate
- Diploma/Certificate of nursing or midwifery, or equivalent medical training
Relevant Experience
- At least 1-year relevant experience in health promotion

- Fluent in Pashto – oral and written skills
