Job Description:

Job summary:

The Champion Community Advisor, under the supervision of Senior Technical Director, in collaboration with the project’s departments, districts, and partners, will lead in the implementation of the Champion Communities Approach to Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) and Community Mobilization for the AFIAT project.

This position is based at the AFIAT office in Kabul.


Work with staff, partners and Champion Communities to collect and analyze data on community mobilization and SBCC approaches to support program-wide M&E objectives related to the Champion Community approach
Under supervision and in coordination with the provincial field manager, identify and work with implementing partners, NGOs, CBOs, communities, and local leaders to complete strategic objectives and coordinate activities through project work sites
Participating in the design, planning, implementation, and M&E of project community mobilization and SBCC activities
In coordination with the provincial field manager, manage the implementation of the Champion Communities Approach for the AFIAT project which will establish locally elected village committees to select, monitor, and communicate health priorities, to increase demand-driven, accessible, and high-quality health care by enabling community members to plan, carry out, evaluate, and own SBCC initiatives.
Develop/Adapt/Refine/translate training materials for the Champion Communities Approach.
Identify, reactive, and train Community Development Committees in the Champion Community Approach.
Participate in the conduction of the baseline and end line assessments.
Develop and disseminate materials for the Champion Community Approach.
Facilitate exchange of best practices between Champion Communities at district and health post levels, and establish learning exchanges across communities including on social media.
Establish an income generation training program for Champion Communities and (where applicable) as CSOs/NGOs for sustainability.
For Champion Communities with CSO/NGO status, develop the capacity of these groups to write proposals and grant applications (where applicable).
Develop criteria and assist in distribution of income generation incentive funds according to the Champion Community Approach.
Develop steps for introducing KoBo toolbox into Champion Communities for indicator data collection.
Participation in the preparation of annual and quarterly work plans.
Provide inputs to monthly, quarterly, and annual project reports.
Perform all additional reasonable tasks as requested by the employer or project supervisor relating to areas of expertise.
Participate in the celebration ceremony for the champion communities.

Job Requirements:

Job Requirements:

Residence and ability to work in Afghanistan is required.
Fluency in at least one local language (e.g., Dari/Pashto) strongly preferred; fluency in English a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area, such as Medicine, public health, communications, sociology, anthropology, allied health or related fields with experience in SBCC and program management experience in the field of Community Health and/or community engagement
Bachelor’s degree with 10-year experience or master’s degree with 5 years’ experience.
Experience in facilitation and training, and coaching/mentoring.
Professional experience in creating communications campaigns related to public health, family planning, maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH), youth health education, or climate change.
Experience working in collaboration with NGOs and international donors such as USAID.
Excellent writing, editing, and interpersonal communications skills.
Proficiency in computer Microsoft Office Suite (World, Excel, and PowerPoint) required
Proficiency in graphic design, audio, or video edit software preferred.
Able and willing to travel 30-50% of time.
