Social & Humanitarian Assistance Organization (SHAO) is a non-government, non-profit humanitarian social welfare organization. SHAO is registered as an Afghan NGO with Ministry of Economy (MoEc), Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. SHAO was founded on 22 January 2009. SHAO is based in Kandahar and has implemented projects in the Southern, central and northern regions of Afghanistan. SHAO has implemented projects in child protection, community education, gender equity, WASH, health/hygiene, capacity building, livelihood and advocacy. SHAO is currently working in different provinces of Afghanistan, mainly focusing on mitigating the effects of COVID-19, internal displacement, cross-border illegal immigration on the vulnerable communities. With the ensuing situation in the country SHAO has targeted its programing focus on child protection, gender mainstreaming and youth participation.
