The National Bureau of Statistics and Information acts as the highest independent statistical body in order to establish a single scientific system for registration of figures, coherence of statistical activities and geographical information, registration of population and population status, and development of information systems in Afghanistan.
The National Bureau of Statistics and Information, formerly known as the Central Bureau of Statistics, was established in 1351 as an independent administration within the government to create a national system of statistical information to coordinate the management of all aspects of the country’s statistical information.
At the level of government departments, this has been an academic and important department that has made all the information and figures available to the departments, public, private, international and public authorities.
From 1352 to 1357 AH in other provinces of Afghanistan, this office expanded its directorates and then in 1370 it was promoted to the ministry for a while from the general directorate.
In different periods, this office has carried out many activities, the most valuable of which is the implementation of the first census of the country’s population. For the first time, the household census list was conducted in 1357-1357, and finally in 1358, the first census was conducted in Afghanistan, and in addition to this, the department has engaged in other significant and fruitful activities, such as the implementation of sample surveys.
