Ministry of Public Works

MoPW’s vision is to create safe, effective and efficient road network in Afghanistan which includes regional highways, national highways, and provincial roads consisting of bridges that form a major transportation system for the people of Afghanistan.

The ministry’s mission is to build effective leadership and utilize skills and experiences as well as sources and information in cooperation with donors and other involved organizations with consideration to enhancing economic capabilities, improving environment and quality of life in the country.

The ministry directly manages a series of activities related to transportation via highways which includes creating standards, research, training, technical consultations, access to state-owned lands for constructing roads and strengthening commercial vehicles safety.

Ministry of Public Works as a basic and significant element of National Transportation System has a role in devising programs and policies and allocating resources to facilitate development and maintenance of roads in Afghanistan
