Introduction In 2016, Handicap International as a lead of a consortium comprised of Norwegian Afghanistan Committee (NAC) and Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) / Ghazanfar Institute of Health Sciences (GIHS) started implementing a project named “Towards Improved Access to Quality Physical Rehabilitation in Afghanistan (TIQRA). This project managed to train and graduate 237 physiotherapists coming from across Afghanistan and qualified with a 3 year National Diploma from GIHS. The aim was that after graduating, they would be absorbed within the health system and provide rehabilitation services in underserved areas.
In the second phase of this project, TIQRAII, one of the activities of the project is to ensure support to the graduates for the start of their career. The mentor will not only guide the P&O graduates in practical patient care and service delivery but also guide through the challenges of a new workplace in order to find positive solutions together, hence supporting the settling process of the mentee from studies into workplace. The graduates are located in various Physical Rehabilitation Centers including in, NGOs and INGOs.
