fghanistan National Health Technical Assistance Program (NHTAP) is designed to target policy, mid-level and service delivery agents with a range of technical activities to strengthen care seeking, access to and quality of health and nutrition interventions. The Center for International Education (CIE) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass) in collaboration with the Management Science for Health, Inc. (MSH) and Kabul University of Medical Sciences (KUMS) strive to enhance adoption of optimal health and nutrition behaviors by providing expertise in the area of literacy/health literacy accelerated learning and community-based education. Building on the successes of the earlier Learning for Life Project and similar work, NHTAP will work with stakeholders to identify and assist in the development of local learning centers to engage with communities and provide training. NHTAP will recruit and train local facilitators to ensure that literacy classes complement training for health workers and community midwives, will develop and deliver training activities, and will provide support and mentoring to facilitators and Provincial Managers
