Agency for Rehabilitation & Energy conservation in Afghanistan (AREA) was established in 1993 as the continuation of GTZ/DESP (Domestic Energy Saving Program). AREA conducts all types of integrated community development programs to achieve peace and stability in Afghanistan through enabling the communities to deal with their problems by themselves.
Community based mine action program (CBMAP) is an integral part of AREA’s initiatives. AREA CBMAP was established in 1995 and is sufficiently experienced in organizing communities to handle their own mine /ERW problems in their communities. AREA is the founder and initiator of community based mine clearance program in Afghanistan and has professional skills and rich experiences of conducting community based mine action programs throughout the country.
Based on the need assessment of clearing contaminated areas for conducting development projects, AREA’s CBMAP has the duty of ensuring cleared safe lands for implementation of development projects which is executed by other functional departments of AREA.
